Sumita Roy

Prof. Sumita Roy is Director, Osmania University Centre for International Programmes, and Chairperson, BOS, Dept of English, Osmania University, Hyderabad. She has been teaching at the University for the last 25 years. She has guided 11 Ph.D. and 12 M.Phil scholars in American, British, Canadian, Comparative, Indian and Anglo-Indian literatures—working on poetry, drama, fiction and prose. In 2006 she won the BOOKS on BOOKS Award from the Federation of Indian Publishers, New Delhi. She has completed several Research Projects sponsored by UGC on Indian Philosophic Prose and Soft Skills. She has written/co-edited about 40 books and published more than 42 articles in national and international journals. She regularly delivers lectures at different UGC Academic Staff Colleges, academic institutions, and government and private organisations.

Sarada Devi, consort and foremost disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, was given the responsibility of carrying forward his spiritual mission. Sarada Devi’s experiences can be considered as an exemplification of life skills: communication, negotiation, interpersonal relations, stress, time, change, conflict and mind management, problem solving, decision making, goal setting, planning and executing.

In her we find a wonderful resolution of many conflicts: her life and experiences anticipate the tenets of feminism which would take almost one more century after her advent to come to the Western consciousness.
