The very meaning of the word Upanishad highlights its purpose of creation. The word “upa” means “near” and the word “nishad” can be underwood as “to sit down”. The sacred Upanishads are created as an extract of the mighty work of four Vedas with the only purpose of realising Aatma (the self) and Brahman (the Absolute Truth) and the relation between the two. One is Vibhu (omnipresent Almighty) and the other is Anu (fragmental part and parcel of that Almighty). One is the original fire and the other its mere reflection. The ultimate mission of the Upanishad is to bring the reader to the Absolute Truth — who is that unknown whom we all are looking for in our lives, who is sought after by scientists as the original cause of all causes, who is the beautiful mind behind this material and spiritual creation, and who is the divine being hidden behind the veil of illusory energy called maya covering the eyes, mind and intelligence of all mortal beings. Reading Ishopanishad is an adventurous journey into the realm of the unknown to seek the knowledge and awareness of that very Absolute Truth in our lives. The word “Isha” points to that “Absolute Truth”, to whom everything belongs, and who is the prime controller of everything what exists. In this Upanishad, we will attempt to explore the unmanifested aspects of the Absolute Truth and to reveal his ultimate spiritual yet personal aspect. I am confident that by reading this book, all your doubts in your spiritual journey will be answered. Eventually, you will discover your final destination from an eternal perspective. And one who shares this Truth with others is blessed with an expansion of their own wisdom.
Indradyumna Dasa belongs to a family with an army background and has travelled and lived all over the country. An engineer by education, he was initiated in Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Sampradaya more than a decade ago. With the blessings of the Vaishnava Acharyas, he started his missionary activities in 2012 by meeting people and creating general awareness about social and spiritual health. He personally mentors people in the transcendental wisdom of Vedic science, especially the Bhagavad Gita (divine song of the Godhead), to help people live happier and more holistic lives. He believes that despite the sectarian forms of religion in the world today, divided in their ways of life and ritualistic appearance, they all share the same goal of achieving the sweet Love of God in this lifetime.
